Anthony Gauslin
This artist/painter/sculpter's work was recently viewed in its magnificence at an Arts and Crafts Festival here in Los Angeles, CA. We were so impressed by the uniqueness of his craft that we visited his web site to discover more about his speciality. An original A. E. Gauslin is produced entirely by the artist without the help of an assistant. The creative process begins with a call to an Alaskan Fossil source that he has used since he first began as a self-taught, full-time artist in 1986. Gauslin views on art affirms his commitment to execute skillfully and with substance the integrity of his crafted pieces.
Expressions that convey wisdom, nobility or serenity embodied in an old hiker leaning on a staff or a Native American hunter are the type of qualities he endeavors to capture. That, and nature, dipicted in its simple purity -- the frailty of a decomposing leaf or the intense gaze of a lion. After only a few minutes of contemplation, without having drawn on the material, he charges in. What exhilarates Gauslin is the spontaneity of the moment. The "chisel" used in the execution of his miniature sculptures is a dentist type of electric tool called a Foredom. In the final stage, before sanding and polishing, watercolor due to its translucent quality, is used to accentuate details.

WHAT IS A VOW?
What is a vow? Your own commitment. You decide to do a certain thing, to follow certain principles, and that becomes your vow. You make a vow. A marriage vow is a commitment. A monastic vow is a commitment. Even friendship is a commitment. Life itself is a commitment.
If you make a vow and honestly try, and find you cannot live up to it, you need not feel guilty about it. Because if you feel guilty then you lose your courage, your strength of mind. But if you make a promise to somebody and if you fail in your promise and by that you affect someone else's life, then certainly you will feel guilty and the karma will affect you.
Without commitment in life we can never grow. Commitment is a way of training the mind and making it obey you. You become the master of your mind. Who wants to break the commitment? Your mind. The mind pops up, "Oh, I don't want to do it," and you give up. Then wherever you go, whatever you do, the mind will have that same tendency. Think before you leap. Once you leap, that's it. Stick to it, whatever it is. Your dynamic will should be applied. "Yes, I decided to do it. I am going to do it. I will never back out." The dynamic decision itself will help you achieve success in that.

We cannot help but be seen when we inter - view, essence to essence, to unearth an absolute freedom without feeling guilty about it. The omnipresent culture-whole of Human Being swings on the cosmic pendulum for equilibrium in the great anthology of "The Evolutinary Expressionism of Life Energy." We must no longer be afraid to shine bright and bold the inner light, although a majority seems to embrace enslavement, entrapment and imprisonment as a way of life for all times...! We do not have to be deceived, accept, submit, separate and/or think that belonging to any particular group will provide a sense of freedom and friendship exclusively; for freedom of the utmost highest is being 'All That Is' which is freedom from 'All That Is' visible and invisible. What is, IS! This is the moment and it has just dissolved into complete oblivion, yet catapults the new, fresh and alive energy through transformation to continue the journey of the reflection in the mirror of the inflective mind essence. We are the ghost, spirit, elixir of source, force and substance thriving, growing and developing magnificent feats of creation. We are here to transcend the state of reflective thought clasping at familiarity. The past, present and future concepts frozen in time capsules must be shattered to release and free the spirit to soar into uncharted territory never traveled before.
"The mental formations includes the virtuous and the vicious qualities which operate in shaping the mind for good or ill. A man with a mind conditioned to virtuous habits will "naturally" act, speak and think with good intentions; whereas the man with an evil trend of mind will produce malevolence. Qualities such as mindfulness, steadiness of mind, intelligence, wisdom, confidence, energy, tranquillity, friendliness, compassion, sympathetic joy at others success, happiness, welfare, and so on, are contained in the one term "virtuous principles of mind". The opposites to these, qualities which are ignoble, coarse, cruel, unwholesome and unprofitable in a spiritual sense, comprise the "vicious principle of mind." Because of this particular group our minds are sometimes constructive and unselfish in their function, whilst at other times they lend themselves to destructive or base activities. "One performs good or bad deeds voluntarily." Hence all willful actions, including speech and thought, proceed from volitions in this group." - A Principle of Vipassana Meditation
The mirror images of illusion must not delude the premise of manifested reality that life is eternal, and eternal is now. Where we are is the most important place to be. The cosmic cylinders, pylons, pistons of psychic structure corroborates to mass produce the pantheon of euphoria in a psychological struggle and yet the soul emerges victoriously as one not two. This narrow escape from the bowels of the earth to the vast oceans of cosmic dominion forges ahead a determination to expose the truth behind creations coming and going. We bicker and fight for no apparent reason or specific purpose with the dragons or demons of our dreams which potentially strengthen and prepare us for the revelation of the internal to arise out of the mirage of darkness. The reflective mirror crystalizing celestial consciousness into beings of infinite proportions radiates lights igniting life forms across universes. The Artist within surges forth within all Human Beings with great understanding of Human suffering, agony and despair. The creative pulse in the extremes is without mercy and yet this dynamic is mediating the affirmative expressions of life here and now. The sagacity of human oligarchy is transformed on the deepest levels through every creative effort and art form imaginable. This is fantastic!
Many times we have said we don't have any time right now? We are to busy. It doesn't take time to do anything, it takes doing the thing which time is created for, with ease and grace, to be done! The discordant babel of modern civilization surpasses the tower of the ancients quest to reach to the heavens, as the centers of the world likewise collapse to their foundation under universal pressure to change or perish; and like the tower of babel spinning forth various languages crying for liberation from human bondage so are we resounding the echoes for freedom. The Artist must not lose sight of the big picture, its contents therein contained become irrelevant as one follows the blissful surge of creative energy freely. The mega stimulus that inspired us to materialize in the first place cannot go unnoticed. It is there! Right where we are now! When we look into the black hole of space and nothing looks back at us we feel safe but when something looks back at us, like the boogie man, while looking into the black hole, we become frightened and insecure. So we begin the defensive maneuvering to avert direct contact and/or integration. The reflection in the mirror is a stranger. We have never seen ourselves before. We only know the self as 'I am' and always will be!
Narcissism is a word identification for loving the reflection imagined in the mirror as the family portrait of humankind evolves from it's natural inception like all species within this planetary kingdom to its rightful place amongst the stars. We gravitate and expand in numbers to varying degrees while living upon this earth. It is good to be alive, well loved, happy and above all free. But are we free? The reflective mirror is inflective by its nature. We are learning to apply mastery and wisdom in every breath we undertake as a supreme blessing. However there is a sense of struggle to survive whatever is creating the struggle for survival. This threat upon the Human Being compromises conflicting elements within the mind to intensify the defenses against itself. The absolute truth inevitably sets every encounter upon this sojourn to emerge to the highest order of it's capacity in alignment with its nature.
When the eye looks in the mirror there isn't anyone there for 'I am' is the eye in the mirror that is there. So 'I' rebel, discriminate, prejudice, bias and judge prematurely all aspects of creation by determining through ignorance what is a right, a wrong, or indifferent concept of the species. This deliberate ignoring the internal clarity of truth provides unfathomable challenges to life's discoveries. The missed opportunities to adventure further in the vastness of this spiritual sojourn can become overwhelmed when looking into the mirror of one's soul. The Artist cannot resist any opportunity to expose the unlying intent and purpose to reveal this truth about life. There is only inclusion which envelops exclusions that are devised by limited thought processes for the human species, juxtaposing the 'I am' you and me as a motif. What can we do but love one another unconditionally in the midst of constant changes, through creative means regardless of the superimposed conditions instituted by a society.
So often we deny the possibility that we are learning about ourselves in earnest and that we haven't a clue to what we are doing or what is going on. When we look into the eyes of another what do we see? Do we avoid, ignore, avert our eyes for fear of connecting and/or being rejected? What happens when we just simply look straight into the others eyes and channel energy to the inner chamber? Our eyes are open portals to reach through the windows to the soul. This is a divine act of selfishlessness. Art is love. Love has no frame or definition to restrain it. The symbols of love, like all symbols, are instruments to open the chasm of compassion, kindness and beauty to flood through the star gates of the mind, body and soul as this essence of freedom. The reflection in the mirror disappears so fast when captivated for a split second that it enables the unified field of energy to continue unimpeded dissolving the image into oblivion. Read the obituaries or just visit the graveyard sites of kindred spirits who have come and gone lately. Likewise the maternity ward of a hospital and/or playground of children of the golden light. This demonstrative act of life's temporal progression at play is sublime and cannot be controlled or diminished.
Oh Great One, Wake-up! Take none of the things of life for granted! They are fleeting! It's just a game. After all, one hears that life is too short to play games, which is a misunderstanding because life is very long and playing infinite games during the process of it's unfoldment. It is a wonderful thing to let go of clinging, craving, holding on, obsessing and possessing to see what is in store when everything one does comes directly from the creative source. This reality is illusion, a carnival, circus of players projected out of a single thought onto the starlight stage in personification. We Human Beings are the perfect Artist, travelers in relationship to people, places, things, situations and circumstances of life as we evolve step by step. The key is communication! We do what we do when we do it and it is done! Now is the only time to proceed. There is only one image, not two images, recognized in the reflective mirror. It provides the greatest joy of feeling and being free from all attachments to thoughts about what will and/or won't happen. Life is unpredictable and that is what makes it exciting. It is the one and only happening! It becomes a state of delusion in the mind to think otherwise, based upon the fact of existence and nonexistence alone.
The universal concept of duality is logical, reasonable and rational, although hypothetical, and repetitive occurrences happen by design to say the least. There are plenty of answers that will satisfy the inquisitive mind on it's quest to seek and find. Of course once it finds an answer to what it is looking for, then what? What is it looking for? The cycle starts all over again just for the fun of it. The question drives us to go forward and beyond finality. Life is far more intriguing and interesting when answers are stepping stones to discover more answered questions. Therefore, when seeing clearly the objective reality, one knows that it's subjectivity is preconceived ideas manifesting as quantum leaps in random directions in divine order. There aren't any accidents per se, although we entertain this concept quite frequently, just to discover the unknown. Where are we going? This dimension is unfolding moment to moment, therefore attach to nothing and pass through the looking glass with all of it's multiple facets of life which will flow into zero equation. We encompass the vastness of the self through the creative processes as we know it, to be what it is with the intent to master all prospects of intergalactic space. The impulse to breakthrough and run wild in the unified field is a necessity in order to explore new possibilities.
It's not permanent. It's always new. It's brilliant. It's genius. It's just a dream, thought patterns unfolding the fabric of this universe; no matter how permanent it appears, things are not what they seem. We the Artist are at work creating masterful illusions of reality. The weaving web constructing canvas is creating another blank page to be scribbled upon with a paint brush to bring forth insight, inspiration and vision from the very core essence of Human Being. The transparent beings of ourselves populates this space with reflections of exploding imaginations. Everything is transitory and expanding at an excellerated rate. This omni propulsion is the affirmative action substantiating through the temporal, ephemeral and momentary expressions of life's evolution it's natural state. The stillness at the centerfold of creation brings about peaceful and harmonic rhythms to the provocative surface's turbulent, chaotic and confused energy between the invocative worlds.
We come to go like flashes of light flickering against the mystical dark sands of the hour's glass inflecting multiple cells of mirrored times and spaces disbursed into many component parts. In collective consciousness the psychic awareness and transferences are never individual. We are in-divisable and yet the protest to claim division from the source has wrecked havoc on a superficial level only.
The highest expression of intelligence affirms that no body is separated from the life energy which infuses all of creation. It is the whole that absolutely benefits ultimately. Like particles of dust dancing in the winds of change transforming the surface or visible realities of the reflecting mind, restlessness abides. Contrary to popular adaptations, interpretations and/or beliefs, we don't want the mundane, blasÈ, trivial acts of existence to control and dominate our potential reality.
The Artist knows that everywhere one looks one sees oneself and yet when one covers one's human eyes one sees nothing in the realm of appearances but the abyss. The third eye penetrates the blocks to the mind's ability to serve beyond duality. This void is the reflection mirror. There isn't any image it doesn't command to be or not to be without soul instruction to do so. There isn't any explanation required to believe or disbelieve although we will spend eternity attempting to define this very existence. Pretending to seek the lost-coded-records in the secret garden of creation keeps us occupied with mystery. One fact of wisdom is 'no matter how high we go, we still must go higher' propelling ourselves into self rediscovery of this inner power. We are bursting through the black velvety backdrop big time!
What a phenomenon we have become in forms, shapes and sizes. We can breakdown everything we misunderstand to the most minute based terms of expressions and still come no closer to the power of our full capacity. The miracle is right here observing, reviewing and assimilating this in formation process. The variations in combination spin off cycles of life energy revolving in the orbits of consciousness when addressing the temporal roles we play within the ocean of mind. This is a wonderful, magnificent illusion, from the ancients to the moderns and back to the ancients again and again we are greater than all of our mirrored images or narcassitic parts. The knowledge, data, information are designed to entertain and titillate the soul, not to prohibit or prevent freedom. The reflection in the mirror stemming from the ultimate self of creation is the riddle which is answered, we are it!
Now, while looking in the reflective pool of mind, body and soul, an image emerges which projects onto the scene's virtual reality in this very moments activity. The image of no thing prevails and eliminates all presumptions, assumptions and debates about results. The ethereal form is interdependent, interconnected and interrelated within this unified field of life energy producing effects. We are multiple and singular by nature. All else is an interpretation of ourselves in the making for recorded human experiences. The orchestration unraveling within the time capsule space has revealed energy expanding, extending and unfolding into unknown dimensions. Ultimately we come to know that there isn't just duality, there is infinality. The depth of the inner being projecting outer beings is beyond comprehension, however the visual domain suggests many probabilities as an expression of this life energy to be in singularity.
Stop, look, listen and see the mirror image as it concretizes the experience of a human existence. The thoughts are specific and vague. The picture is clear and blurred. The audio is silent and noisy. What a dilemma to pass through unaffected and unimpeded by the falsified needs, desires and wants for finality or permanent reality. We are the life source effecting causes that sustain the process of this adventure. Not to adhere to this would surely cause entropy of the energy force field from shielding this very source of nature from ever happening. No! No! No! We must live, grow and develop constantly. This is life's mission. This is life's purpose. We are exciting creatures of habitation. The grounds are broken from underneath our feet and we are suspended accordingly.
The attachment to any concepts can imprison or entrap one into a false reality or produce a delusion of the mind, even these presented upon this page. Things are changing rapidly all the time. Life cannot and will not be prohibited or contained in any universe. Life must out live life itself. Every thought filled moment renders a different reflection in the mirror for a brief moment. We are the dream which is ungraspable. This possibility has evolved another possibility. Details become unimportant, insignificant and superfluous when we acknowlege the pockets of bubble energy exploding into and out of existence. Look at the stars and see our reflection in the mirror of inflected black space. Boy, oh boy, oh boy.....what a miracle!

The organismic cycle of reincarnated artifacts traveling through time and space from the 'Genghis Kahn' era into present day consciousness is compiled, coordinated and exhibited under the guidance and direction by Linda Komaroff, Curator, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Stefano Carboni, The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York, to invoke the viewing public to examine, rejoice and celebrate the bang that is heard around the world. The microscopic lens of the inner eye has shifted onto an infinitesimal microbe of dust particles gone with the winds of time as a tribute and glorification of the horrendous deeds of one 'Genghis Khan' another exposÈ of Human Being upon planet earth.
Out of the timeless abyss of thoughts unified field of collective consciousness, we bring forth the spoils from the ruins of ancient civilization's vaulted archives through archeological digs and tomb bursting to acquire access to the unknown. The accrued knowledge and tangibility of objects retrieved from the salvage dunes of the earth's grave remains provides current civilization an opportunity for further investigation, exploration and discovery to better understand our missed-understandings about ourselves as a Human Species. We must constantly and consistently enter into the realms of our creation in order to develop the mastery of our Human Being. 'Genghis Khan' is merely one aspect of the universal principle of life's manifestations from the Paleoanthropic to this present point of Human evolution. The earth preserves our matter and spirit at this integral point of Human history as we discover the connecting links through found relics that construct, constitute and affirm the repetition of Human existence unfolding as we proceed into the unknown reality.

This thought provides insight regarding the legacy of conceptual time itself. It is to be a transmission of the universal principle of impermanence which assures that all things in time must pass out of time. The earth rotates on its axis as it continues to do so for billions of sunrises and sunsets during the fusion mutation processes of this intergalactic community of stellar planets, orbiting cycles that transform all species within time and space. The universal ruler 'Genghis Kahn,' AD (1167-1227), the son of a minor chief in what is now Eastern Mongolia, and was originally given the name Temujin united the nomadic tribes of Mongolia in a disciplined military state. ("The Mongols were fierce warriors who in the thirteenth century swept down from the grasslands of Mongolia in northeast Asia to create the largest land empire in history, stretching from China to eastern Europe. While the Mongol fighters were brutal in battle, they were also active supporters of trade and art." - by Elizabeth Hammer). In 1207 'Genghis Khan' led the Mongols on the first of many destructive, bloody invasions of which an infinite number of Human Beings were slaughtered by his raids. 'Genghis Kahn' was an illiterate man, but his success as an Emperor produced military superiority, organization and strategic mobility unsurpassed by his predecessors. The fact that his empire extended from China throughout Central Asia enveloping everything in it's path echoes voices and sufferings from graves barking cruel irreligious piety to be damned. Although his initial efforts seem to unite and provide a pantisocracy; it in itself was an artificial gesture of irrelevancy based upon the massacres executed to control his empire under absolute rule and power. It is evident in this exhibition that "The Legacy of Genghis Khan" is generated by his sons and grandsons, who were no doubt tutored, trained and prepared to rule the world. "The Legacy of Genghis Khan" pinpoints his grandson H¸leg¸'s rule over the provinces of Iran, Iraq, Western Afghanistan, Southern Russia and eastern Turkey as well as his inspired artistic ambitions to secure the Khan's place in History for all times through art. (Once the Mongols established their large empire, they hired artisans, who gathered from various parts of the domain to create works of art that glorified their power- by Elizabeth Hammer). What makes the aftermath of these atrocities bearable today from that period in our Human History are these 200+ antiquities (ceramics, textiles, metal works, manuscript illustrations and documentation). This display articulates the villainy and deception rooted at the core of Khan's ambition to rule as sovereign lord and master of all Human Beings!
When viewing the immensity and depth of this exhibition's information from its psychological, psychical, intellectual, material, political, economical, social, spiritual and religious basis, it appears that the apparitions, ghosts, poltergeist and shamans awaken. These Humans who perished from the might and strength of such a ruler pierces through as a remembrance of the capacity for Human destruction. Their clairvoyant introspection may send shivers up the spine with delight or fright regarding freedom. There is a sense of conscience (con-science) cacophony embracing the gapping hollow of the earth as it yields it's living dead. The monsoon effect of fear and dread may seem to overshadow the mind, body, soul and spirit of the living as acid rain eats away at the exterior revealing the interior motives of the calculating use of the mind by the Khan's of the world. The exhibits distribution of "The Legacy of Genghis Khan's" categories, hierarchies, prerequisites and ranks may seem a bit scholastic as the intellectual perceives "The Art of War" on display through the catacombs of this gothic tomb which reminds all Human Beings that it would be an injustice to speak of the justice claimed in the acts of Human desolation. The lies lived cloaks the lies we breed to justify our means to an end through mental manipulation, telepathy and psychic transference. Oh yes, "The Legacy of Genghis Khan" is a foundation stone to stand upon for observation, overview, insight and wisdom in witnessing the true intent and purpose of a universal ruler of his magnitude, even after his death in 1227. We are not deceived by the intricacies of lives destroyed to achieve the glorified tragedy of a Khan dynasty. The insanity of the Human species gone awry through obsession, possession and schizophrenic persuasion to gather against his fellow Human Beings is prevalent in every aspect of the evolutionary expressionism of life energy.
The artistic imprints and religious implications are definitely incorporated in the relics, mosaics, tapestries, textiles, documents, etc. , from Chinese, Persian and Turkish influences which is embedded in the forms and motifs from Byzantine, Iranian, Russia and Yuan dynasty. The karmic reminders of mankind's retroactive cognizance for retribution as reflected throughout 'Genghis Khan's' evolutionary expressionism of life energy holds true without compromise. The historical and psychological captivation by world conquerors and their demise renders explanation through validation as monumental Heros producing crimes against humanity, taps into the universal pathos for mankind throughout Human evolution. The sacred pantheons to recognize, immolate and acknowledge the empirical diadem creating a legacy such as "The Dynasty of the Kahn" is obvious and essential in the artifacts today. The present revisitation as rite of passage into the ancient world of 'Genghis Kahn' as a modern phenomenon of disrepute and presentation has proven to be the epitaph preserved in his honor with the utmost care and caution at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, however the reciprocity of the world's greatest conquerors, dictates, leaders, tyrants and rulers of this magnitude are indistinguishable in characteristics for dominance via any and all means accessible and necessary to fulfill their intent and purpose.
This gargantuan exhibit encompasses the inter-relational pulse and motivation of modern day world factions experienced here and now without question to which we no longer can deny the answer, "Does Art Imitate Life?" or "Does Life Imitate Art?" This age old paradigm exemplifies inquiry about 'Life and Art' as one complete whole, therefore substantiates the answer unequivocally, "It is neither!" Art does not imitate but originates itself through the forces at play, which authenticates the unique status of the living moments presently creating via the evolutionary processes of the unknown reality into the known. "The Legacy of Genghis Kahn" shows this throughout extensively recorded history as documented in this current exhibition at LACMA.
Kudos for the efforts of Ms. Komaroff and Mr. Carboni for taking on such a recapitulated task of a quantum leap into warp time of a parallel universe that enables modern man to witness once again his growth, cultivation and development as a Human Being throughout the annals of time.

It is important wherever we are located on this planet earth to be attuned to the pulse of our civilization's cultivation, growth and development as a living species. We thrive when sharing the Human experiences in truth, honesty, character and integrity as we travel around the world. In the beginning the Los Angeles Convention Center is empty then bits and pieces of the prearranged geographic floor plan emerges into booths that bring about the appearance of full fledge activity of Human Beings scurrying, moving in and out of the multiple spaces within a three day period. Every publishing house has its own niche. They are distinguished in various cubical footages with representatives encouraging, suggesting, inviting and pushing their particular genre and special interest like circus barkers. This is life! The aisles are overflowing with constant traffic until the cycle of the days business savvy and efforts subside into the next phases of diminution towards the completion of the exposition.
It seems that the Los Angeles Convention Center American Book Exposition's purpose and intent is intensified in this compressed buying and selling environment for distributors, producers and general public relations without the conscious awareness of it routine. What is truely new? The sensation of being in a convention center where publishers from all over the country gather to promote, entice and make deals regarding their particular literary industry's needs and demands for the reading public to respond has a great deal of work to do. Books and more Books, past, present and future content are being published to flood the marketplace for potential purchase by unknown readers around the globe as to what will this book or any book do to enhance, reveal and/or solidify information that will transform accumulated knowledge of every kind into wisdom for the reader to live a better life here on planet earth.

The publishers hands are full in efforts to reevaluate and produce what is the extraordinary creme dÈ la creme of the American Literary Exposition. Their function in the world of selective literature is under scrutiny largely because of an enormous inconsistency in understanding and comprehending what effects and causes the avid reader embraces as a true topic of investigation and significance. We are writing, publishing and distributing our inner most thoughts to the interest of what is basically and relatively an illiterate society. Why do we read? So that we may know that we are not alone.
